  3. The NARAS Student Music Awards Nurture Young 
  4. Musicians and Composers
  5.  
  6. The NARAS Student Music Awards were established in 
  7. 1989 to recognize, support and encourage exceptional 
  8. creative abilities and original compositions in the recording 
  9. arts and sciences at the collegiate level.
  10.    
  11. "The Student Music Awards, along with our Grammy In 
  12. The Schools program, educational seminars, publications 
  13. and our NARAS Research Grant Program, are all 
  14. important vehicles by which the Recording Academy can 
  15. work to not only educate tomorrow's recording industry 
  16. professionals and audiences, but also address the serious 
  17. crisis of music and arts education in our schools," says 
  18. Recording Academy President Michael Greene.  "The 
  19. Student Awards address the situation at the college level 
  20. by fostering and encouraging the pre-professional and 
  21. professional training of young musicians and composers."
